We were proud to have hosted Commissioner Rafael Espinal at Eastern Effects' Annex 302, our Brooklyn stage, during production on writer/director Nikola Duravcevic's debut feature (produced by Alexandra Byer and Matthew Thurm).
The Commissioner toured the stage, spoke with crew, and discussed the future of the industry, whose current initiatives are paving the way for a more resilient "Made in NY" ecosystem:
- Affordability for Creatives:Expanding programs that ensure NYC remains a place where artists and independent workers can actually afford to live and work.
- Green Production: Pushing for sustainable infrastructure and "Green New Deal" standards across the city's soundstages and filming locations.
- Workforce Protections:Strengthening the "Freelance Isn't Free" framework to provide better security and union-level support for the crews that power our sets.
Conversations like these are vital as the industry works to regain its footing. We remain deeply committed to supporting the independent spirit that defines this city, providing the stages, equipment, and reliability needed to help New York filmmakers get back to doing what they do best. |
